Two years after the events of The Avengers, Steve Rogers (Evans) a.k.a. Captain America is living in Washington D.C. and working for S.H.I.E.L.D. On a covert mission to save a S.H.I.E.L.D. vessel and it’s passengers from pirates, Steve sees fellow agent Black Widow (Johansson) downloading information from one of the ship’s computers. Steve was not aware of this part of the mission, and he begins to wonder exactly what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s motives are. The data she gathered was at the request of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Jackson) who is privy to a special project Operation: Insight designed to preemptively strike and eliminate enemy targets. He shares some of this information with Steve, and it does not sit well with him. When Fury tries to open the captured data, his access is denied, and he tries to get answers as to why. At that point he is viciously ambushed, but escapes to hide out in Steve’s apartment. Thinking he can trust Steve, he gives him a flash drive with the data to keep safe. While in Steve’s apartment, Fury is attacked and murdered by a mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier, who eludes capture. Steve now has a time-bomb of information about a secret project, and he has to find out what it all means for the safety of the United States and the world. There is an insidious plot about to unravel and it’s up to Captain America to get to the heart of the conspiracy.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the next chapter in the Marvel Comics Cinematic Universe. As with any of the Marvel Superhero films, Captain America is action packed. When I say packed I mean totally loaded. From beginning to end, non-stop thrills. You’re drawn in from the first moment all the way to the last. There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot that will keep you guessing as to who and what exactly is at the core of the operation and just how deep S.H.I.E.L.D.’s enemies have infiltrated the organization. One brilliant surprise in the casting of Robert Redford as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. executive and member of the World Security Council.
If you follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also watch ABC’s Agent’s Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America: The Winter Soldier is right up your alley. It all connects together. As always with Marvel Comics movies, two rules apply: 1. There’s always a Stan Lee cameo and 2. You never leave during the credits. If you love action and superheros, then definitely give Captain America a look.
