“It Don’t Mean A Thing” really captures the overall vibe of the album,” said Matthew. “I love the way it allows me to marry singing and dancing. You’ll see what I’m talking about through the music video which will be released later this month! I’m so excited to finally introduce everyone to the music that is so close to my heart.”

Morrison turned to legendary producer Phil Ramone, along with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Gregg Field, to create the 12 songs featured on Where It All Began. The collection of standards marks the first release from 222 Records, the newly formed label from Adam Levine. The album is available for pre-order via Amazon.com.

After studying musical theater, vocal performance and dance at NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts, Matthew Morrison made his debut on Broadway in Footloose, followed by The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, it was his role as Link Larkin in the original cast of the Broadway production of Hairspray that served as his breakthrough and led to him being cast in the critically acclaimed The Light In The Piazza. His portrayal of young lover Fabrizio Naccarelli garnered him a TONY nomination for best performance by a featured actor in a musical. He subsequently received a Drama Desk nomination for outstanding actor in the off-Broadway musical 10 Million Miles and reprised the role of Lieutenant Cable in Lincoln Center’s TONY-nominated production of South Pacific. Matthew soon followed these performances with his role as the perpetually optimistic high school teacher Will Schuester on FOX TV’s Glee, which he has received both EMMY and two Golden Globe nominations. He most recently co-starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez in the major motion picture What To Expect When You’re Expecting.

Pretty like a pistol, and sassy like a tequila sunrise, soulful redhead Dominique Pruitt is here to shimmy your coconut tree with her own brand of retro pop, that’ll have you craving a classic convertible getaway to a mid-century modern paradise. Her musical style has major nods to the sounds of bygone eras where beach blanket bingo, drive in theaters, and lover’s lanes were what summers were made of. She’s a flea market treasure scourer, a tiki drink sipper, and a rhinestone cowgirl-really, she has horses and loves all that sparkles.

Growing up high on a hill in “the” Valley outside of Los Angeles, she made up imaginary friends when she was a small child, and this is where her love of story-telling began. Her parents and all of their friends too, were professional musicians, so being surrounded by eccentric music makers was just normal life. The course of her young life was forever altered when she was 9. She saw the John Waters’ film “Cry Baby”, and there it was- she was madly in love with all things 1950s, especially the music, and there was no escaping it. As she got older, everything about the 1940s and 1960s snuck into that special place in her heart as well. Her singing career started as a young girl, and her first audience was actually her horse, who would listen while walking for hours on a dusty trail.

Today she still sings to her horse, but much more so for her fans around Los Angeles. Dominique has an interesting writing partner, her Dad (with a pretty weird past)…but that’s a whole other story. She is ready to release her debut, and can’t wait to let everyone hear what she’s been cookin’ up.

Debut self titled album out this summer via Merovee Records. Produced by Dave Darling (Glen Campbell, Brain Setzer, Stray Cats)

Preview the debut single “To Win Your Love” below:

In theaters May 10

Wade Walker (Robinson) is just your average guy who pays the bills by writing and performing “creative” yet helpful songs for children, such as by helping them with what to do if they have to pee. The focal point of his life is his upper crust, live in girlfriend Grace. Grace (Washington) comes from a wealthy, educated family so rarified that Wade has dubbed them “The Chocolate Kennedys.” Grace has yet to tell her family, more specifically her federal judge father (David Alan Grier) that she is involved with, let alone living with, someone which is a speed bump in their relationship. Grace is set to go and spend a weekend with the family at their home in the Hamptons, but without Wade. Alas, Wade has a secret. He has been working up the nerve to propose to Grace and decides to follow her to Sag Harbor to meet her family and pop the question. Reluctantly, Grace introduces Wade to the family, more importantly to her federal Judge father, who has no idea who he is since Grace has never mentioned him. Wade wants to make a good impression, but everything, and I mean EVERYTHING gets off on the wrong foot. Will Wade prove himself to Grace’s family through all the hilarious misunderstandings and finally propose?

Peeples is a wonderful family comedy written by Tina Gordon Chism, writer of “Drumline” and “ATL.” This film also marks her directing debut. “Peeples” is also co-produced by Tyler Perry, but don’t expect the over-the-top shenanigans of “Medea.” Tyler was pretty much hands off on this and let Tina run. Ms. Chism has given us a genuinely brilliant and entertaining comedy without being too sitcomish. Sure, it is slightly predictable, but it’s not a problem as there are definitely some unexpected highlights such as Grace’s mother, played brilliantly by “Law and Order’s” S. Epatha Merkerson. She is an ex 70s soul singer who is in AA, but has a penchant for mushrooms (yes, those kind of mushrooms). Her little brother, Tyler James Williams from “Everybody Hates Chris,” is a computer science geek just trying to get his gangster swag on, and her CNN correspondent sister who has yet to admit to her family that her female cameraperson is more than just a friend. The cast is rounded out by two icons in black film and television. Grace’s grandmother is played by one of my earliest influences, Diahann Caroll, who lovingly accepts that her granddaughter is “that way,” but doesn’t quite understand it, and her grandfather is played by 70s blacksploitation film icon Melvin Van Peebles. Also keep an eye out for another of my faves “SNL” alum Ana Gastyer, who has a small but interesting cameo role.

There are not many modern films that can actually be referred to with that lovely classic phrase “Screwball Comedy”, but “Peeples” can; this is timeless! It is actually a thoughtful and a good, lighthearted laugh. I guarantee you’ll walk out of the theatre with a great feeling.

5 out of 5 stars.

Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby
Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan
Tobey Maguire as Nick Carroway
Elizabteth Debicki as Jordan Baker
Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan
Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson
In theaters May 10

It’s the height of the 1920s; the Jazz Age, the era of flaming youth, wealth, and excess abound. The story of “The Great Gatsby” is told through the eyes of Nick Carroway. Nick is the cousin of wealthy socialite Daisy Buchanan, but Nick is also the neighbor of the mysterious, enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby, who is known for throwing outlandish, lavish, and wild parties. As Gatsby takes Nick in to his confidence (something Gatsby never does with anyone), Nick learns that Gatsby has a secret. He and Daisy have a past…Gatsby has always loved Daisy. They met and fell in love when they were very young, but when they fell in love, he was penniless. Daisy was a rich girl and because of war they were forced apart. He never stopped loving her, nor she him, even though she married someone else. From that point Gatsby made it his life’s mission to become rich so that one day he could come back and claim Daisy as his own. So he enlists Nick’s help in reconnecting with Daisy. Daisy’s life is complicated, but empty. She’s married to a former sports champion polo player, who is also a pompous, bigoted bore who has a mistress on the side. But a part of her has never let go of her love for Gatsby. When they reconnect, things get extremely complicated.

“The Great Gatsby” is Baz Luhrman’s lavish epic interpretation of the great American classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Unlike many, I never read the novel in high school. My first impression of Gatsby was the 1974 film version staring Mia Farrow and Robert Redford, so I’m not sure just how true this presentation is to the book, but it follows well with the 1974 production. If you are familiar with and are a fan of Baz Lurhmann’s other works such as “Romeo + Juliet” (also starring Leo) and “Moulin Rouge,” you won’t be disappointed with “Gatsby.” The fit is just right as Lurhmann brings this classic piece of literature to life. The lavish decadent atmosphere and lifestyles of the 20s era actually easily fits in with the current socioeconomic climate. To further hammer that point home, Baz brings in Jay-Z who produced the soundtrack for the film. As with Baz Luhrmann’s other works, the soundtrack is so important to this film. The modern hip-hop soundtrack actually manages to seamlessly fit the tone and convey the feel of the 1920s atmosphere. This film will inspire a generation. Just as Jay Gatsby spares no expense, Baz Lurhmann spares no expense in giving you a dizzying, stunning feast for the eyes. Through his story telling, Luhrman paints such a rich canvas (definitely enhanced by the 3D during the party scenes) that you can’t help getting swept up and want to live in Gatsby and Daisy’s world.

I urge you to see this film, if only to see what all the shouting is about. I guarantee you will be left breathless.

“I’m always the loud one,” smiles Katy Tiz.

Well, it’s the “loud ones” who get heard first, and you’re going to want to hear everything that the UK singer and songwriter has to say. On her forthcoming debut for Lava Records/Universal Republic Records, Tiz artfully weaves together pop, hip hop, and a little reggae with witty lyrics and punchy hooks. It’s meant to be blasted with the volume way up.

The first taste of that album was the first single, “Famous”. With synths that sound plucked from a retro video game, propulsive percussion, and an irresistible refrain—”You only want to f**k me ‘cuz I’m famous”—it’s an explosive anthem replete with sharp quips about Twitter, name-dropping, and Nintendo.

She reveals, “It’s a tongue-in-cheek, ironic song. It’s funny because I’m not famous. I take my profession very seriously, but I want to enjoy this experience as much as possible and have fun—whether it lasts two months or 15 years. I’m almost making this song to prove I’m not one of those fake people. I always want to be real. I want to be me. I’ll never change. The only thing that changes is my address.” weaves together pop, hip hop, and a little reggae with witty lyrics and punchy hooks. It’s meant to be blasted with the volume way up.

At just 17-years-old, Tiz would join her older brother for local acoustic gigs. The duo would trek up to London from the suburbs and play open mics, doing covers and originals. That’s where she really began to cut her teeth as a performer, gigging anywhere and everywhere for over three years. With big bro pursuing production, she focused on developing a style of her own. After flirting with a myriad of genres that didn’t seem right, Tiz came to a pivotal realization in early 2011.

“I was trying to mold myself into what everyone else thought I should do,” she sighs. “Then, I decided, ‘F**k it! I’ll make the music I love’. That’s when things started to work out.”

Tiz may not change, but pop music might once the world gets a load of her. Often starting the songs with an acoustic guitar and reggae groove, her approach differs immensely, and she never holds anything back.

“I’m definitely an open book,” the singer affirms. “I want to share my journey with everyone. This music is me. I’m relatively outspoken. I’m not rude, but I believe in saying what you feel. Everything is so clean-cut, and people in the industry are so perfectly formed. That’s not me. I’m slightly messier. You know who I am when you hear this. It’s real.”

At the end of the day, that’s the precise reason why she’s also going to connect with everyone who hears her.

“Personally, I search for songs that comfort me and let me know I’m not the only one who feels a certain way,” Tiz concludes. “If I help one person through what I was feeling when I wrote a song, I’ll be happy. I hope I can give them what I searched for in music—and that a couple of people other than my mom and dad like the songs.”
